About
My Philosophy
” It’s my goal as a photographer to recognize the vision you have for your project and to translate that vision into beautifully captured images, video or social media content. I am most interested in getting a sense of what’s unique about you, or your company and brand. It’s important that you feel comfortable and excited about your project. The style, location and wardrobe are discussed before your shoot, but we also leave room to explore spontaneous and creative moments. It’s often in those moments that we get our best shots of the day.”
A little bio
Joe Mazza has spent much of his life behind a camera. As a young man, traveling abroad to remote and desolate places, it was the locals, rather than the architecture that caught his eye. Armed with an old film camera and zoom lens, he went off on his own to candidly shoot the faces of the people who lived there. It was those people who helped form his fascination with the story and emotion behind the eyes of his subjects – a trait that still finds its way into his work today.
While originally from Los Angeles, it was over twenty years ago that Joe found his way to San Francisco as a freelance photographer and acting coach – two professions that fit nicely together. In helping actors to realize truthful moments in front of the camera, Joe has been able to make even the most camera shy models feel comfortable, and having been an actor for the better part of 20 years, he learned the importance of lighting and composition to create emotion in his images. Joe’s work as photographer includes; shooting the opening montage for the hit series SENSE8, Commercial, editorial and product work for dozens of bay area businesses like Zazzle and Courtier Wines, Wine Warehouse, back stage photographer for the American Idol Web site, and the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Bare Chest Calendars benefiting Aids Emergency Fund . His work has been featured in a number of magazines and on-line publications and has been selected to appear with eight other international photographers in a calendar to benefit Act-Q ROMANIA, which helps further LGBT arts and awareness in Romania.
